What’s Happening at Home Since I Quit My Job

Nov 26, 2023

A month ago, I quit my job.

And I think it’s safe to say that I survived.

I’ve been happier (which many have noticed immediately and commented about on my recent YouTube video) and full of creative excitement.

But these last four weeks have also been full of adjustments.

That’s why I’m emailing you today.

Here’s a short list of wins I’ve had and one major challenge I’m facing.

Month 1 Wins:

  1. Way more family time. Spending time with my family and creating memories from moments I otherwise would have missed due to work is the biggest win I can note from the last month.

  2. I made $1,000+ from the decluttering starter kit. I’m excited about sharing the ins and outs of creating an intentional life and building a business in this new chapter of my journey. Doing so with transparency is the fun part.

In the last 30 days, we welcomed 8 new students into the starter kit (with very little promotion or selling on my part). Are these massive numbers? No, but it’s a big win, and I’m honored these students chose the starter kit to help them jumpstart their decluttering journey.

  3. A spark of creative excitement. This win is the hardest to explain due to the nature of it. But internally, it feels like my creative flame has been relit.

Month 1 Challenge:

A couple of weeks ago, I alluded to the fact that working in Corporate America for the last eight years has ingrained certain habits within me. Many have translated well to help me build and run my business. However, others are on the chopping block as I work to redevelop them.

Well, the biggest challenge I’ve had this last month is finding and refining my schedule and routine now that I’m self-employed.

For the last eight years, I’ve mastered the art of going to work from 8am-5pm, and working on YouTube (and other parts of my business) from 9pm-5am while reserving 5pm-9pm for my family — Monday through Friday.

Not the ideal schedule, but I made it work.

Now that I have more available time, the challenge has been shifting away from “night owl Ron” to something more reasonable (and that includes more sleep).

But like anything else, this is a journey.

I’m just blessed to have this opportunity.
