Why life feels off (even when it looks fine)

Jun 22, 2025

Read time: 1.5 minutes

Funny story. My son has a puzzle he loves to ask me to help him with.

And when I say help… what I really mean is, he somehow convinces me to do most of the work—and I give in every time.

That’s okay, though.

Anyway, have you ever worked on a puzzle and come across a piece that almost fits?

It looks like it belongs. The shape is close enough. You press it in and it snaps down—kind of. But then you lean back, tilt your head a little, and realize... something’s off.

That one piece is messing with the whole picture.

That’s what life can feel like sometimes.

From the outside, everything looks fine. You’re doing what you’re supposed to. Showing up. Getting things done. The pieces “fit.” But when you zoom out, even just a little, something’s not lining up.

Why is that?

Here’s what I’ve noticed.

That off feeling?

It usually shows up when you’re not honoring what matters most to you.

When you’re putting other people’s needs ahead of your own.

When you’re saying yes when you really mean no.

When your time and energy are going to everything but the things that fill you up.

Maybe you’ve been there. Maybe you’re there now. Either way, here’s what I’ve been asking myself lately to help stay honest and in alignment—and maybe it’s a question you need, too:

What’s one small thing I can do this week that honors what matters to me?

Not a full life overhaul.

Not a dramatic announcement.

Just a small act of alignment.

Maybe it’s protecting an hour of your time.

Maybe it’s telling the truth instead of saying what’s expected.

Maybe it’s finally doing the thing you keep putting off.

That one small shift might be the missing puzzle piece.

Not the kind that “sort of fits,” but the kind that clicks into place and makes everything around it clearer.

That’s all I’ve got today, my friend.

P.S. I talk about this kind of stuff a lot inside Clarity Lab—clarity, values, goals, and how to live in alignment with them. If you’re curious, you can take a look here.
