Stop Letting Self-Doubt Win (It Means You’re On the Right Track)
Dec 08, 2024Read time: 2 minutes
The fastest way to kill your confidence is to let self-doubt win.
I’m not talking about the little jitters you feel when trying something new, but the self-doubt that triggers imposter syndrome and spiraling thoughts. The kind that says: “I’m not good enough…,” “This won’t work…,” “What if I fail?”—even though deep down, you know you’re capable.
We’ve all been there—staring at something big, working on something meaningful, only to be paralyzed by fear and that nagging voice in our heads.
It convinces us that if we don’t feel completely confident (100% of the time), we must be heading in the wrong direction. So, we hesitate, delay, or even abandon what we want most.
But here’s the truth: Self-doubt happens because you’re doing something that challenges you. You’re putting yourself out there, taking risks, and striving for growth.
This isn’t a bad thing. Self-doubt isn’t the enemy—it’s a sign that you’re stepping out of your comfort zone.
When you’re pursuing something that really matters to you—whether it’s a career goal, a personal project, or building your own business—self-doubt is an inevitable part of the journey.
And that’s okay. Because it’s not about being incapable—it’s about growth.
“Okay great! But this is easier said than done.”
The trick is reframing self-doubt as a positive indicator—a reminder that you’re growing, evolving, and doing something meaningful.
This shift in mindset can change everything, but it requires intentional adjustments.
For example, the next time self-doubt shows up, instead of telling yourself, “I’m not good enough,” say, “This is exactly where I need to be. I’m on the verge of something, and that’s why I feel this way.”
One of the most powerful tools in overcoming self-doubt is small actions. We often think we need to take big leaps to make progress, but that’s not true.
Small steps—small adjustments create momentum.
So instead of viewing self-doubt as a negative, start seeing it for what it is: a natural part of the journey when you’re pushing yourself beyond where you’ve been before.
What You Can Do Today to Move Forward
Let’s get tactical. This week’s action step is simple: Identify the self-doubt you’re feeling right now. The fear or uncertainty that’s holding you back. Then, take one small action toward your goal—just one. The important part is starting.
Whether you write down an idea, reach out to someone, or make a plan for the next step—start. You’ll realize that you can move forward, even when it feels scary.
And with each step, it gets easier.
Because you’re no longer letting self-doubt call the shots.
