Margin reveals what you’ve built
Feb 23, 2026Read time: 1 minute
The past two weeks have been an experience.
My whole family has been sick.
Both my boys tested positive for COVID.
Alexius and I felt sick one moment and fine the next (or so it seemed).
It was one of those stretches where plans quietly fall apart.
Routines disappear.
Work slows down.
Sleep gets weird.
The days blur together.
But this past weekend, we finally turned the corner.
The boys are smiling again.
And I caught myself feeling something I didn’t expect.
Grateful.
Not just that they were feeling better.
But grateful for the margin.
Grateful that when everything slowed down, nothing broke.
Work paused—but it didn’t collapse.
Plans shifted—but they didn’t implode.
The business kept moving—just at a different pace.
A few years ago, this would have felt different.
It would have felt like falling behind. Like trying to keep the gears turning no matter what.
Now it felt… steady.
And that’s when it hit me:
This is why creating space matters.
Not for aesthetics.
Not to have the perfect minimal home.
Not to feel organized.
But because life will interrupt you.
It always does.
And when it does, margin determines whether it feels like a crisis or just a season.
You can’t control when things slow down.
But you can control whether your life is built at max capacity.
If everything in your world requires 100% of you, all the time, any disruption feels exhausting.
If you’ve created space intentionally, disruption still isn’t fun—but it doesn’t feel like a tug-of-war.
That’s a different kind of freedom.
If you’re in a season of wanting more of that—more margin, more clarity, less constant friction—the next Declutter Breakthrough Challenge starts next week.
It’s not about organizing more.
It’s about building space that holds up when life gets unpredictable.
